Initially attached to the large town of Rufisque-Bargny, then to the commune of Bargny, Sébikotane became, in 1984, a rural community - that is to say, a local authority, autonomous and functional.

Sébikotane actually became a fill fledged town during the last decentralization of 1996.

Economy

The Lebanese Families origin, installed at Sébikotane since the beginning of the twentieth century (including the Filfilis and the Bakahazi), gradually invested in the agribusiness and the food industry. They now hold big companies like SAFINA-AGROCAP, Senegalese exporter of beans and tomatoes destined for the European market or the CDA, a supplier of grocery stores and supermarkets in meat products, dairy products.

Hundreds of seasonal jobs have been created.
