Description

Resorts World Sentosa is an integrated resort on the island of Sentosa, off the southern coast of Singapore. The key attractions include one of Singapore's two casinos, a Universal Studios theme park, Adventure Cove Water Park, and S.E.A. Aquarium, which includes the world's largest Oceanarium.

The S$6.59 billion (US$4.93 billion) resort was developed by Genting Singapore. It is the third most expensive building ever constructed. The resort occupies over 49 hectares (120 acres) of land and, when fully open, will employ more than 10,000 people directly. Resorts World Sentosa is a sister resort to Resorts World Genting, Pahang, Malaysia and Resorts World Manila, Philippines.

The soft launch of the first four hotels took place on 20 January 2010, with the Festive Walk shopping mall following on 1 February. The casino opened on 14 February 2010 on the first auspicious day of the Chinese New Year. The Maritime Experiential Museum opened on 15 October 2011 and the last attraction opened on 22 November 2012; The Marine Life Park.

The grand opening of the integrated resort was held on 7 December 2012, officiated by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong together with Genting Group Chairman Lim Kok Thay. Resorts World Sentosa is also expected to hold large-scale exhibitions such as Valentino, Retrospective: Past/Present/Future.

History

Resort history

Construction of Resorts World Sentosa Singapore began on 16 April 2007 on the demolished plot of Imbiah Lookout. It opened in a record time of 34 months of construction on 20 January 2010. Crockfords Tower, Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, Festive Hotel and Hotel Michael opened 20 January 2010, followed by FestiveWalk on 31 January 2010. Resorts World Sentosa Casino opened on 14 February 2010.Universal Studios Singapore was opened for sneak peek week in view of the Chinese New Year Celebrations, from 5 pm to 9 pm every night between 14 to 21 February 2010. The whole park was opened but none of the rides were operational. Visitors had to pay SGD10 to get into the park. Park tickets for the week were sold out in 2 days. The park had its soft opening period from 18 March 2010 to 26 October 2010.

Resort layout

The resort was designed primarily by American architect Michael Graves. Each hotel is designed with a different theme, catering to both the leisure and business visitors. The resort is split into west, central and east zones.

HOTELS

  • Crockfords Tower, formerly planned to be named Maxims Tower, is an 11-storey all-suite hotel overlooking the Singapore harbour and the Southern Islands; an exclusive all-suite hotel. Our luxurious deluxe suites are lavishly appointed with custom-designed furniture, as well as an opulent bathroom equipped with its own steam room and a television set that could be seen through a mirror. Personalised service of the highest level comes as a given, from fruit and chocolates, to a dedicated butler at your beck and call 24/ 7 The hotel also features Crockfords Premier, a casino club with private rooms for High Rollers located on 10th floor.
  • Hotel Michael A tribute to one of America’s greatest contemporary architects Michael Graves, Hotel Michael is a luxurious treat for art lovers. The art gallery-like atmosphere in every maple-accented room is complemented with mural-adorned walls and artistic furnishings and accessories that exude the designer’s signature elegance. Even the bathrooms are works of art
  • Festive Hotel The fabulous location, family- and child-friendly environment, and range of fun amenities make this vibrant hotel the ideal family getaway. Located at the heart of the action near Festive Walk.
  • The Hard Rock Hotel offers uniquely designed accommodations and is the site of meeting and conference facilities, and indoor exhibition space. This includes 26 differently-designed function rooms and one of Asia's largest ballrooms with seating for 7,300 guests.
  • Equarius Hotel situated at the southernmost tip of continental Asia, along the fringe of a tropical rainforest in Sentosa, is the Equarius Hotel. We created this haven as the perfect getaway for nature lovers and families alike, just a stone's throw away from nature hikes and the island's numerous attractions

The upper level consists of an open living area leading onto an outdoor patio and Jacuzzi whilst the lower level offers guests with an underwater view of over 40,000 marine fishes in the comfort and privacy of their own suite. Discreetly tucked away on one side of the world’s largest aquarium, guests will be treated to five-star comfort and personalised butler service whilst enjoying spectacular views of this underwater sanctuary
  • Tree Top Loft Consisting of two unique one-bedroom lofts Angsana and Tembusu, our Tree Top Loft serves as the perfect nature lovers’ hideaway. Tucked away in a canopy of native trees and perched 12 metres above ground, the two lofts are the epitome of exclusivity and privacy. Salon & Spa

ESPA A spectacular 10,000 square meter leisure environment. The first ESPA in Asia commenced on 6 July 2012. Our wide range of luxurious treatment pavilions, private beach villa and garden spa suites are immaculately designed for total relaxation. Our facilities include Singapore’s first authentic Turkish Hammam, Gymnasium, Vitality Pools, Forest Onsen-style Pools, Rock Saunas, Crystal Steam rooms, and our spa café, Tangarine.

Casino

The casino, capped at 15,000 sq.m. by regulation, is located beneath Crockfords Tower. Government regulations also require Singapore citizens and permanent residents to purchase a S$100 day pass or S$2000 yearly membership for access into the casino. Both types of entry levy (daily or yearly) allow the patron to visit to only one casino. Guests must observe the smart dress code upon entering the Casino

Overseas citizens can enter free of charge with their passports or employment passes.

The entry fees are collected by the Singapore Totalisator Board and used for public and charity causes. The casino does not keep any portion of the fees.

In May 2011, the Casino Regulatory Authority fined Resorts World Sentosa for two violations related to reimbursements and two other violations related to surveillance practices. The total fine was S$530,000 (US$425,000).

Resort World Theatre Hosts many events and shows throughout the year.

Resort World Ballroom, Martial Combat, Asia's largest mixed martial arts fighting championship, was staged over six months each year at the Compass Ballroom, and broadcast by ESPN STAR Sports. The Ballroom Hosts many shows and events throughout the Year.

Kids Club

The Kids Club is a world of fun, learning and exploration exclusively for kids at Resorts World™ Sentosa. We understand how important it is to enrich young minds through play and creativity, which is why we specially developed a host of programmes and activities for kids from three years old and above to keep them entertained throughout the day.

From imaginative arts and crafts to interactive story telling sessions; and from music and movement to creating finger puppets or clay painting, we present children with an endless variety of activities in a safe environment that nurtures their creativity, growth and imagination. We are located at Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, next to the Gym. Open 10am-10pm

Mega Bounce

Jump on the bounciest trampoline in the world. Experience an adrenaline rush when you fly up to 8 metres in the air on MegaBounce! Perform flips and turns on this super trampoline and enjoy an unblocked, panoramic view of Sentosa waterfront.

Shopping: Resorts World Galleria

The Galleria links the Festive Hotel, casino entrance and Hotel Michael. It includes the first Victoria's Secret boutique in Asia and a wide variety of other top luxury brands.

Crane Dance is a multimedia moving art installation with choreographed animatronic cranes built over the sea, and designed by Jeremy Railton. Edward S. Marks and Bob Chambers (of The Producers Group) were brought on to oversee the construction, installation and programming of the Cranes. Marks served as Project Director and Producer while Chambers served as its Senior Technical Director. It opened on 25 December 2010.Free admission.

Lake of Dreams is a multimedia spectacular that was designed by Jeremy Railton. Edward S. Marks and Bob Chambers oversaw the construction, installation and programming of this attraction as well. We are proud to present this spectacular choreographed display of fire, water and light, we think this unique musical extravaganza is simply astounding! Every Night at 11pm at FestiveWalk™. Free entrance.

Trick Eye Museum Trick Eye is short for ‘Trick of the eye’, which refers to an art technique that turns two-dimensional paintings into three-dimensional images through the use of optical illusions. With that, 2D paintings on the museum walls, floors and ceilings appear to pop out of the surface and come to life. Visitors are more than welcome to explore the various themed galleries with their eyes, hands and even cameras.

K Live    K.Pop Hologram Theatre Experience the magic of K-Pop through this high-tech hologram comprising both real and virtual performances. 4D Hologram Concert where K-POP Stars are more than real and you can join them on stage. Star Photo Zone: Based on virtual reality imaging technology, you can take a commemorative photograph with K-Pop stars and print out what you want.

Marine Life Park

Marine Life Park, the world's largest oceanarium, opens its doors on 22 November 2012. The park attractions:

The Maritime Experiential Museum The Maritime Experiential Museum was opened on 15 October 2012 that features more than 400 artifacts and replicas with a 360-degree Multi-sensory Typhoon Theatre. It is the only museum in Singapore to display the history of ancient maritime trade where visitors have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the history of maritime Silk Route from the 15th to 19th century. The museum consists of more than 10 interactive points as well as an experience to board on the authentic harbour ships from Asia docked outside the museum. Also, it will become the permanent home of the Jewel of Muscat, a gift from the Oman Government.

S.E.A Aquarium enter and explore the marine realm of S.E.A. Aquarium™, home to more than 100,000 marine animals of over 800 species, across into 49 different habitats, each one as fascinating as the next. It's an experience you won’t forget. 

Adventure Cove Waterpark, previously known as the Equarius Water Park. Thrilling slides and encounters with marine life – all in one place.
At Adventure Cove Waterpark, you can take high-speed water slides, laze the day away drifting on a lazy river, snorkel with 20,000 tropical fish over a colourful reef, wade among rays and even come face to face with sharks!                               

Please be informed Adventure Cove Waterpark will be undergoing upgrading from 13 September to 16 October 2016.

Dolphin Island Our unique programmes give you the chance to interact with the dolphins, which will be an unforgettable experience. More importantly, it will inspire visitors to a deeper understanding of marine life, and to discover more about dolphins through “engagement learning”. Our marine mammal trainers and hosts will share knowledge about dolphins, their habitats, diets, anatomies and migration patterns.

We will also share what we’re doing in the areas of research and veterinary care to give you an idea of what’s being done to protect the dolphins. We can look forward to building a more sustainable marine environment together.

Universal Studios Singapore
