Robertson Quay

Description

Robertson Quay is a wharf near the source of the Singapore River. It is the largest and most upstream of the three wharfs (the other two being Boat Quay and Clarke Quay) on the river.

History

The upper reaches of the Singapore River were originally mud flats and swamps. As the population and commerce of Singapore increased, the area was reclaimed in the mid nineteenth century. Warehouses and boatyards were constructed in the 1880s in both European and Chinese styles.

In the 1990s, the Urban Redevelopment Authority rezoned the area for new development of residential, hotel, and commercial use.

Geography

Robertson Quay occupies 51 hectares of the Singapore River planning area. It starts roughly midway, or about 1.5 km from the river mouth, and terminates at the river source near the Kim Seng Bridge.

Attractions

It is currently an urbanized area filled with restaurants, pubs, cafes, condominiums, offices and other recreational facilities. It is under Tanjong Pagar GRC.

Robertson Walk is a commercial area in the midst of Robertson Quay. It is situated at 11 Unity Street 21 S237995, in prime district 09. It is a unique area filled with restaurants, pubs and F&B outlets facing the waterfront of Singapore River. It resembles a Mediterranean Town square and allows diners to enjoy the perfect romantic ambience. Besides dining options, there are also educational providers here to provide extra-curriculum activities and enrichment programmes for school going children. Robertson Walk is owned by Frasers Centrepoint Malls.

Recreational facilities in the neighbourhood include Fort Canning Park, Hong Lim Park and The Istana.  Singapore’s number one entertainment areas at Mohamed Sultan, Riverside point; Boat Quay and Clark Quay are just few steps away. For Art Enthusiasts, there are also art galleries and museums here such as the Asian Civilizations Museum and Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall.

For more shopping, dining and entertainment purposes you can drive down to Orchard or Chinatown which is few minutes away. 

Location Robertson Quay is closest to Dhoby Ghuat Mrt station which is about 0.69 km away. Other nearby MRT stations are Clark Quay and Chinatown stations. There are also several bus services available here. For vehicle owners, you should exit 27 on PIE and Exit 11 on AYE. If you are driving from here to the Central Business District will take you about 10 minutes. Major expressways such as CTE allow drivers easy access to any part of Singapore.
